Philbert in Dragon’s Den – A Valuable Experience
Presenting Philbert in Dragon’s Den was an exciting and highly rewarding experience. I approached the show with great respect for both the format and the Dragons – and with a desire to showcase what Philbert stands for: quality, sustainability, and carefully crafted products with a long lifespan.
The response in the studio was positive. The Dragons liked both the concept and the products, and genuine interest in the business was shown. It was a significant recognition, for which I am very grateful.
A Clear and Right Decision
After the recordings, I took time to consider the options. Shortly before the episode aired, I made a deal with a distributor who placed an order worth three times the investment amount offered during the show. This not only changed the financial conditions but also gave me a realistic picture of what it takes to elevate Philbert to the next level.
Already the week after the recording, I was working intensively to keep up with everything a new distributor agreement entails: production, logistics, deadlines, and coordination. It was exciting and a great opportunity – but also very time-consuming. It quickly became clear that I couldn’t take on more without upsetting the balance in everyday life and the time I prioritize for my family.
Therefore, it was actually an easy decision to decline the investment. Not because the offer wasn’t attractive, but because it was clear that Philbert was already on a healthy growth journey that required full focus.
The Products Didn’t Appear – But Freedom Remains
Declining the investment unfortunately also meant that my products were not featured in the final TV broadcast. Of course, it would have been fantastic to gain that visibility – but that is the nature of the format. And it doesn’t change the fact that today, I am incredibly happy to own a company that I still control 100%.
This gives me the freedom to develop Philbert on my own terms, at a pace that makes sense – and with a clear focus on what matters most: integrity, quality, and a sustainable path forward.
